The golf swing is a system that has an INSIDE (main body) - slowest, MIDDLE (arms and hands) -- faster, and OUTSIDE (clubhead) - fastest. Players who try to hit it hard move their bodies too much and too fast for the clubhead and outpace their club. Here's a fix: straddle a chair, derriere against chair back. Hit teed up balls without moving off the chair. The club swings faster while your body supports swing and speed.
Yard Stick Drill - Gerald McCullagh
Take two yardsticks and fasten them together. Lay them flat across your left hand, palm-up. The bottom edges of the yardsticks should run along the calluses at the base of your fingers. Wrap your fingers around the yardsticks. They will slide up into your palm as you do this. Now fit your right hand to the left and place the yardsticks in the address position. Concentrate on the feeling of this grip and watch how the movement of your hands change the face of the yardsticks. Now go through this same procedure with a golf club.
Right for Height - Dick Harmon
The lob shot takes some getting used to, as the swing is long but the shot is short. To generate a long enough swing and the necessary shallow approach into impact, try to feel an underarm throwing motion with the right arm. Take practice swings (then hit balls) with your left arm off the club and let your right arm create the wide arc and shallow approach necessary to slip the leading edge under the ball.
Parallel Left Alignment - Scott Sackett
Remember to line up the clubface to the target before taking your stance. If we align our club on the target line first, we can set our body parallel left of the target line. Think of railroad tracks running straight towards the target. The outside track would be our target line, the inside track should be our body line.
